Mary J. Mayer

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE VETERAN

Colonel Mary J. Mayer, USAF (Ret.)

I’m a Portland, Oregon, native who joined the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant in 1972. I served my country for over 30 years in a variety of intelligence, personnel policy, administration, contracting, program management, and special duty assignment positions — in the continental United States and overseas in Southeast Asia, Panama, and Spain. I earned a number of major military awards during my service, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Defense Superior Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

After retiring from the Air Force as a colonel in 2002, I accepted a position as the Deputy Vice President/Senior Director for Global Procurement and Supply Management for KBR Inc., a global, multimillion-dollar company.

In 2011, I was appointed by the governor to serve as a member, and later, chairwoman, of the Advisory Committee to the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs. I also served on the board of directors for the Oregon World War II Memorial Foundation.

I continue to find pleasure in contributing my time, talent, and treasure in support of various veteran and community organizations, including the Air Force Association, Military Officers Association of America, United Veterans’ Groups of Oregon, the American Association of University Women, and the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra.
