UNITED STATES NAVY VETERAN
I enlisted in 1983 and served on board the USS Dixon A-37 during the transitional period when women were first starting to be assigned aboard surface vessels. Although we were only allowed on auxiliary ships at the time, it was a huge step for women in the military. The men on board were either all for it or completely against it. It was a tumultuous time for women in the fleet.
